Filadelfia Coffee Estate
Antigua Guatemala

More Than a Century of Family Grown Coffee

Genuine Antigua Plantation
FILADELFIA COFFEE TOUR

Coffee is such a fascinating topic. We invite you to join us on a marvelous tour of this exceptional plantation located on the edge of the city of Antigua.

At an altitude of between 5000 and 6500 feet the FILADELFIA Coffee Estate produces one of the finest coffees on earth, and product from FILADELFIA has won the "Cup of Excellence" award twice. 200 acres of "arabica" coffee has been grown here for several generations under environmentally and bird friendly conditions.

This beautiful farm of 900 acres is developing into an ecological tourist resort which eventually will have hotel accommodations. On this interesting tour we
will show our guests how coffee is grown from seed in the nursery and take them through the many phases of processing. The adventurous have a chance to breath in the cool fresh air of our mountain forest reservation at an elevation of 8000 feet with an incredible bird’s-eye view of the Antigua valley. The trip by mule or jeep will take you through tree plantings of white pine, cedar, cypress and even redwood and Douglas fir which we brought in from California a few years ago.

Our expert guides will be glad to answer any questions concerning coffee and coffee processing. During the tour you will learn many interesting facts about:
How we grow Coffee:
We will show and discuss how to grow and cultivate the trees from seed, pruning methods and shade control and the harvesting of the cherries.

Coffee Wet processing
This is the first phase on the way to the cup involving fruit depulping, fermentation, washing and sundrying on extensive patios. The result is coffee in parchment.

Coffee Dry processing:
Shortly before shipment the parchment is "hulled" and afterwards carefully handpicked and classified according to the size, color, weight and density of the green bean.

Roasting Plant:
FILADELFIA Estate also roasts some of its production on the plantation for TOTAL FRESHNESS. You will be shown the roasting process and learn about different roast degrees for different purposes like espresso and all-purpose grind, and packaging and blending.

Coffee Laboratory:
Here you have an opportunity to participate in a coffee "cupping" session with our taste master and acquire some knowledge about the distinct taste sensations of different coffees. The lab also has an espresso machine at your service.

Coffee Museum:
We hope you had a good time during this tour. At the end we welcome you to our Museum to take you back in history when coffee was first introduced in Antigua and to show a beautiful Video on Coffee.

Why not enjoy a delicious cup of our coffee in our Coffee Shop or maybe you would like to take a pound of FILADELFIA coffee or a souvenir with you to remember this day. Or perhaps you decide to stay to go for a mule ride?

There are two tours at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday through Friday and one tour at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
